Effects of Evolution

Cratery moon

The children of the planet, 8159-OP, never got to see the beauty of the sun. They envied the children of Earth and all the other children who got to see the magnificent, fiery ball of light. There, they would only see the stars and the moon, as it was always night in the land of 8159-OP. Long ago, when the planet had forests, trees, and plants, it was a beautiful planet. It was beautiful until the people of 8159-OP had evolved and became more advanced. This evolution caused pollution, with effects worldwide. The scientists of the planet had not yet figured out a good way to use energy without creating pollution. All the pollution had caused the sun to block out, and the rotation of the planet stopped. They were stuck in a place where all they could see was the moon. Sometimes evolution is not so good.

The Sea of Life

“The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach – waiting for a gift from the sea.”

-Anne Morrow Lindbergh

As she walked toward the beach, the wind seemed to tease her. It tasseled her long, black hair and shook her loose clothes. The sand blew under her feet, slipping away, constantly moving like the raging sea not too far ahead. The animals scuttled in the other direction leaving her alone. Even the entrenched rocks seemed to go with them. She walked toward the bubbling and foaming sea, full of courage and confidence. She sat on the wet sand, near the angry sea, concentrating, thinking, as the sea waters went up to her chest. She was still rooted to her ground, as the sea unleashed its fury. Even then, she was able to stand her ground, unlike the others, who might have been bigger than her. As the sea became subtle and calm, all the animals and the rocks came back, as if the storm never happened.
