My Radio People

Basically, radio hasn’t changed over the years. Despite all the technical improvements, it still boils down to a man or a woman and a microphone, playing music, sharing stories, talking about issues – communicating with an audience.

For a long time, I never knew that. 🙂

When I was a little kid, I always had weird thoughts in my mind. Many of my thoughts tried to explain the changing world around me. It’s a surprise I still remember these thoughts. I was always captured by the way a car works. Compared to me, the car was humongous, but that didn’t bother me. Instead, I always tried to understand what was under that bulky shield. I would open doors and try to explore all the controls when I had free time in the car. Naturally, one of these controls switched on the radio. Not after a long time, I also found the speakers from which the sound was coming from and I would love putting my hands on the booming radio and feeling the vibrations. The only thing I could not understand was where the sound was coming from. When my parents explained what the antenna was, I didn’t understand what that stick outside had to do with the sound inside. To help me understand more, I would come up with “scientific theories”. My theory was that there was a whole band playing for me inside the car.  I imagined miniature people living inside the car. I wondered how they would live without water and food, but I never cared to ask. Further more, I needed to find out how the button activated those people. That took a bit of imagining, but I figured it out. The people would be sleeping, and when I pressed the button, they would wake up. Yet, my curiosity was still not satisfied. I pondered about the type of people they were. So, I decided they were my radio people.
